Ziqing Yang, who currently lives and works in Beijing, works in multimedia practices that include still and moving images, installations, text, and weaving. Her works present a paradoxical and ambiguous dichotomy: a deep fascination with the 'earth' coupled with a sense of alienation from the modernity that emerged post-industrialization. These elements overlap or juxtaposed, creating ghostly, suspended imagery that reflects her focus on geography, space, and materiality. In her recent practices, Yang employs walking as an embodied practice and mapping as a technique to intertwine lived experiences within vast, indifferent, and eerie urban landscapes. She works with fragmented images, carefully stitching and layering them to form a psychologically broken and disoriented map. She is thinking and exploring the hyper-intimate relationship between humans and modern materials as a medium in the Anthropocene/Capitalocene. Yang is dedicated to creating labyrinth-like landscapes in the entanglement between humans and the environment, and unraveling the enigmas posed by the rational mind.
